July Update

This month started off with the Tauranga Brass Band coming to our centre to perform. It was lovely to listen to the tubas, trumpet, trombones and drums play together. A couple of the clients had the opportunity to conduct the band which was cool. Some of the songs they played were “Ben”, “I will follow him” and the “Goodnight KIwi”. We had photos with the musicians afterwards.

We had a FIFA World cup fun day where we came dressed in soccer gear. I wore a Chelsea shirt. We played a game of indoor soccer, coloured in  the flag of the country Paraguay that I picked from the initial 48 countries that qualified for the tournament to make a bunting. The bunting was strung up in the sports arena. We listened to songs from different countries and had to guess where they originated from. After lunch we watched the movie "The Big Green” about some soccer misfits. It was really funny.

In Hunting and Gathering I collected succulent plants from Liz’s mum's house to plant in the centres garden. I picked limes for the clients and staff to use.

My favourite pastime is cooking and I have enjoyed making a blueberry cake, pumpkin and feta salad and making guacamole.

In literacy I am learning the process of hand writing a letter. I am writing to my family. Watch this space.

I have visited the Greerton Library and walked around Yatton Park.

June Update

Wow! What a busy month it has been.

I made star decorations for the ball and painted lavender in water colours. I also made tree prints from leaves I collected in hunting and gathering.

As this term comes to an end I enjoyed my last session of swimming. I have been practising floating on my back with the other clients and I continue to walk lengths of the pool.

I continue to enjoy my cooking session. This month I made muffins for the ball, pasta sauce, toasted sandwiches in the pie maker, and a chick pea curry which I thought was too hot.

Having massages is always a treat and I enjoy having a foot spa and hand massages.

We had an amazing Masquerade ball. It was a very special day with the girls wearing their pretty ball gowns and the men in suits and ties. I had my make up and  hair done. My hair was blow waved and had glitter hairspray sprayed on it. I made the mask which I wore and I looked very beautiful.

We had a DJ called Mark who came dressed in the theme and a mystery quest arrived and we had to guess who it was. Surprise! It was Cassie, an ex staff member. We had a mocktail which was coloured blue with fruit on the side and a glittering mask on a toothpick stuck in it. We had a savoury and blueberry muffin which had blue icing and silver balls on. I wore a lovely mauve dress and had a few dances. It was a lovely day.
